How patch pricing actually works

Most patch pricing goes wrong in the same place: the stitch count is a guess, so everything built on top of it is a guess too. This tool works the other way around. You enter the patch dimensions and how much of the patch is actually stitched — the coverage — and it estimates the stitch count from there. Then it prices that stitch count against your thread, stabilizer, backing, and labor rates, applies your bulk tiers and any rush or hot-knife add-ons, and hands you a per-patch price plus the whole-order total.

Say a customer wants 50 dog patches, 3.5 inches wide, about 75% coverage, velcro hook backing, needed in five days. You enter the size and coverage, pick the backing, set the quantity, and toggle the rush add-on. The tool estimates the stitches, prices every input at your rates, and gives you a number you can put on a quote — plus a printable version to hand the customer. Bump the quantity to 200 and watch the bulk tier move the per-patch price on its own.

The coverage input is the part most calculators skip, and it's the part that matters most. A 3-inch patch at 50% coverage and the same patch at 100% coverage are two completely different jobs. This calculator treats them that way.

How much should I charge for embroidered patches?
It depends on size, coverage, quantity, and your rates — which is exactly why a flat per-patch price list doesn't work. This tool builds the price from your material and labor costs plus your markup, so the number is profitable for your shop, not someone else's. Set your floor rate once and it flags any quote that lands under it.
How do I price a rush patch order?
Turn on the rush turnaround toggle and set your own rush percentage. The price updates across the whole quote — per-patch and order total — so the rush gets charged for instead of coming out of your pocket.
What does “coverage” mean for patch pricing?
The percentage of the patch area that's actually stitched. A 3-inch patch at 50% coverage uses far fewer stitches than the same patch at 100% coverage, so it costs less to make and should cost less to buy. Enter your best estimate and the tool does the rest — you can always override the stitch count by hand.
Can I price patches for jackets, hats, and uniforms?
